With critical thinking ranking among the most in-demand skills for job candidates and influencing decision-making ability more than IQ, you would think that educational institutions would prepare students well to be exceptional thinkers and employers would be adept at developing such skills in existing employees. Unfortunately, both are largely untrue.

You may not believe that you can teach yourself any of the 10 key skills. I want to assure you that you can. But you have to take action. Schedule four hours to go through all of content in this curated post. Make sure that you take detailed notes, always extracting the big ideas. Once again, so that you do not short change yourself, please read a book on critical thinking to complement this post. And find ways to apply your critical thinking.

Since I started to learn the skills, I have read three short books on critical thinking, each piece of content in this post will expand my knowledge of the skill. To assemble this post, I used CurationSoft and BuzzSumo.

You will also learn about asking questions, characteristics of critical thinkers, standard for critical thinkers and exercises. It's a great starting point to learning critical thinking skills.

Although this is a presentation, it is actually an e-book. It is about how to develop critical thinking skills success in 20 minutes a day. At the beginning of the book, there is a pretest. You will also find information on how to recognize and define a problem. When you have finished reading the e-book, you will have a solid foundation of how to think critically.

The range of curated content in this post on critical thinking is far more diverse than the one on negotiation skills, but not as diverse as the one on problem solving. However, I like the New York Times piece with the mini documentaries since it is critical thinking in action. If you read all the articles, watch all the videos and presentations, at the end, you will have more than the foundation of critical thinking.

I invite you to use this curated post on critical thinking skills as a resource that you refer to. For your homework, take notes, and create a table where you compare and contrast the various problem solving processes.

No matter how you create them, you want the hexagon decks to be filled with the key ideas of your recent class work, as well as interesting ties across disciplines and to the modern world. Hexagonal thinking seems like a very innovative idea to facilitate deeper critical thinking and debate between students. Associating Key terms, figures, or events in this format is a great way to build understanding. Students arrange their hexagons in order and rationalize their movements in their own critical thinking activity. Then those same students can pair up with peers to debate and converse about the placement of each others terms. Great activity to mix up class instruction effectively!

Reflective practice was something which developed in disciplines such as teaching, medicine and social work as a way to learn from real life experiences. People in these areas would think about encounters with their students, patients or clients, how these worked and what lessons they could take away. Over time many other areas have adopted the principles of reflective practice, including universities. You can use reflection when studying, for example when preparing group work or when working on assignments. It is also useful beyond academia when you are applying for jobs, as part of a professional qualification or just as a way of thinking about your role.

One highlight includes a grant of $28,200 to Bearing Bike Shop to support Gearing Up, an intervention program for struggling students at Thomasville Heights Elementary School and Price Middle School. Launched in 2018 in partnership with Purpose Built Schools, the program gives student participants the opportunity to earn a bicycle by completing a specified number of hours working in a bike shop while learning activities related to bike repair and maintenance.
