Haseena Parkar was born in 1959 in a poor Muslim family in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. She was the seventh of twelve children of Ibrahim Kaskar and Amina Bi. Her brother Dawood Ibrahim was the third child and the most influential among his siblings. Haseena grew up in the Dongri area of Mumbai, where she witnessed the rise of her brother as a notorious gangster and smuggler.
Haseena married Ibrahim Parkar, a small-time businessman, in 1976 and moved to Nagpada, a Muslim-dominated area in south Mumbai. She had three children with him: Qudsiya, Umaira and Danish. Haseena lived a normal life as a housewife until 1991, when her husband was shot dead by Arun Gawli's gang in a revenge attack for killing two of Gawli's men. Haseena was devastated by her husband's death and vowed to take revenge on Gawli.
Haseena took over her brother's illegal business in Mumbai after he escaped to Dubai following the 1993 Bombay blasts that killed 257 people and injured over 700. Haseena became the de facto don of Mumbai underworld and earned the nickname "Aapa" (elder sister) among her associates and rivals.
